Asa O’Neal, a University of Kentucky senior mechanical engineering and physics major, was named to the 2024 Astronaut Scholars class by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF). The West Liberty, Kentucky, native is one of 71 Astronaut Scholars and was recently honored at the ASF Innovators Symposium and Gala in Houston, Texas. READ MORE

June 2024 - ‘Holler Pride’ hits the pavement: Johnson Central solar car ready for Texas competition
WYMT - The Eagle X team at Johnson Central is taking its new solar car to an out-of-state competition. The car has been a work in progress for the students for several years, with funding and support from the University of Kentucky and area sponsors. During the last few weeks, the students have been shining up the solar car, getting the wires lined out, and testing it on the track, with plans to hit the Texas Motor Speedway solar car race this month. Mountain Citizen - Bradley Goble of Martin County High School has been awarded the prestigious Stanley and Karen Pigman Scholarship and enrollment in the Pigman Scholars Program at the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering for the 2024-2025 school year. UKNow - Megan Parsley has wanted to be an engineer since she was 8. She’s been interested in biomedical engineering since discovering the inspiring story of a Florida dolphin named Winter who lost her tail in a crab trap but was able to thrive after receiving a prosthetic tail. “I went and visited that dolphin before she passed away in 2021 and it completely piqued my interest,” Parsley said. December 2023 - Stephens Launches NASA Propulsion Technology Outreach Program
University of Kentucky College of Engineering - On Nov. 6 and 7, high school students and chaperones from Pike, Johnson, Floyd, Fayette, Knox, Bell and Pulaski counties traveled to Huntsville, Alabama, alongside Pigman College of Engineering faculty and staff to visit the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and U.S. Space & Rocket Center as part of the NASA Propulsion Technology Outreach Program.
